Atlanta World Cup 2026 — Airport to Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Mercedes-Benz Stadium sits in downtown Atlanta, barely 12 miles from Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) — the world’s busiest airport. It’s the only U.S. venue hosting a World Cup semifinal, so demand here peaks hard; a pre-booked fixed fare skips the I-75/85 Connector crush.

Rideshare pickup

The City of Atlanta runs two designated rideshare zones a short walk from the gates: Zone 1 on Northside Drive (in front of GWCC Building C) and Zone 2 on Broad Street between Trinity and Mitchell. Door-to-door drop-off isn’t allowed — the event perimeter is GPS-blocked on match days.

Public transit

MARTA rail is the recommended route: all lines meet at Five Points, then one stop to the GWCC/SEC District or Vine City station, each a ~5-minute walk to the gates. Fare is $2.50 (tap any card), trains run every ~5 minutes on match days, and the Gold/Red line reaches downtown from ATL airport in ~25–30 minutes.

Traffic to expect

The I-75/85 “Downtown Connector” right beside the stadium backs up 60–90 minutes before kickoff and after the whistle; I-20 and Northside Drive jam too, with rolling closures inside the security perimeter. World Cup parking is pre-purchase only (no on-site sales).

Local match-day tips for Atlanta

  • Use Vine City station over SEC District — its west-side exit feeds the pedestrian bridge to the gates and clears faster after the match.
  • Hartsfield-Jackson (ATL) to the stadium is only ~12 miles, and the MARTA Gold/Red line from the airport beats driving the Connector on a match day.
  • Tap any Visa/Mastercard or Apple/Google Pay straight at the MARTA fare gate — skip the 15–20 minute kiosk line.
  • Atlanta hosts a semifinal on July 15 — the single highest-demand day here. Lock in your ride and lodging well ahead.

Atlanta World Cup transport — FAQs

Is there a train to Mercedes-Benz Stadium?

Yes — MARTA rail runs to GWCC/SEC District and Vine City stations, each a 5–10 minute walk from the gates, for $2.50 each way, with trains every ~5 minutes on match days.

How far is Atlanta airport (ATL) from the stadium?

About 12 miles, roughly 18 minutes by car off-peak — but the I-75/85 Connector is unpredictable on match days, so the MARTA train from the airport (~25–30 min) is often faster.

How early should I arrive for an Atlanta World Cup match?

At least 90 minutes before kickoff — more for the July 15 semifinal. If driving, allow 3+ hours for Connector traffic and the pre-purchase-only parking.
